It's so nice to go back and reminisce the awesome things and experiences in our past. Back in the day, way before there was a Glorietta or huge SM malls, there was Syvel's. My mom or aunt used to go and shop there in Escolta 'coz it was the hottest shopping and business district.
Just recently, my daughter and I visited the almost-ghost-town of Escolta. While the expedition brought back pleasant memories of my childhood and while I did remember being bought dresses and other nice stuff here, it was equally saddening - if not shocking - to see the structure's current state. I was told that the architect was a National Artist and so, I it's a small wonder that the building is still amazing to look at despite its dingy and sometimes eerie appearance.
Well, it seems that the place is going to be renovated soon. My hope is just that they will be able to keep the original facade in respect to Syvel's history.
There are also some long-closed department stores near it. Do you also still remember Otis and Plaza Fair?
