Celebrate Pilipinas! One of our own won a bronze medal - the first one there is for the Wushu team and the third one for the Philippine team - on the recent Asian Games. Congratulations to Agatha Wong who hails from the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.
But have you ever wondered what Taijiquan and Wushu are? And why are they uber cool?
Have you seen those Chinese folks practicing Tai Chi in Luneta (Rizal Park)? Each time I see them, I'm in awe coz their movements are so fluid. They move like the wind, their hands flow like peaceful waters, and they look serene. It is said that the very foundation of Tai Chi is Qi Gong where the student does static movements in relation to energy (Qi pronounced 'chi').
The moving meditation is known as the Form.
Tu Shou or 'pushing hands' is a partner exercise.
The Tai Chi Sword is no less than the pinnacle of this training where the student moves and is one with his/her sword.
All these may be predominantly Chinese but Agatha Wong is also our own. The Tsinoys are very much a part of our nation because they have also learned to embrace our culture and have been trading with us for hundreds of years. So, cheers to us Pinoys for this amazing win!
